The escalation continues at the Lebanese southern border, with Hezbollah launching a complex operation today targeting the city of Akka with marches, leading to the evacuation of 200,000 Israelis from northern Israel and their entry into shelters.

Commenting on the security developments, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Interior Elias El Murr considered the southern front as protecting Lebanon from 13 breaches in Palestinian camps.

This southern front has not yet extended its fire to the presidential file despite talk of positive developments. Egyptian Ambassador Alaa Moussa confirmed after the Quintet's visit to Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri at Ain el-Tineh that "the meeting was positive and a new step that can be built upon towards electing a president," stating, "There will be further consultations in the coming days with parliamentary blocs."

Regarding the prisons file, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati chaired a ministerial, security, and judicial meeting discussing the issue of Syrian prisoners and convicts.

Economically, the World Bank pointed to a slight improvement in the Lebanese economy, expecting the country to record an economic growth of 0.5% in 2024, compared to an economic contraction of 0.2% in 2023 and 0.6% in 2022.

Regionally, the UAE and Oman called on regional parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid escalation risks in the region and its peoples.

Simultaneously, the French judiciary summoned a group of pro-Palestinian MPs on charges of promoting terrorism.
