Armenia Snap Elections

With 100% of votes counted, the Civil Contract party of Armenia's prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, lead the election with 53.9% of votes in snap parliamentary polls. An alliance led by his rival, former president Robert Kocharyan, came second with 21% of votes. Election officials said, nearly 50% of the eligible voters cast their ballots on Sunday.

 

US Cuts Military Assets From ME

The Saudi-led coalition spokesman said on Sunday, a downsizing of US military assets in KSA will not affect its defense capabilities. Washington on Friday announced it was cutting the number of forces and air defense units deployed to the Middle East.

 

Iran Nuclear Plant Shutdown

Iranian state TV reported on Sunday Iran’s sole nuclear power plant has undergone a temporary emergency shutdown. An official from the state electric company Tavanir said the shutdown began on Saturday and would last "for three to four days.” Earlier in the day, Tavanir said that the plant was being repaired.

 

French Regional Polls

In the first round of regional polls on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen's parties stumbled as conservatives surged ahead of next year's presidential elections. Le Pen promptly blamed the setback on the record level of abstention from the polls.
